Gordon's monster day leads Royals past O's

Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Gordon finished 4-for-4 with a pair of three-run homers to fuel Kansas City's 8-6 victory over Baltimore in Sunday's finale of a four-game set.

Lorenzo Cain and Billy Butler drove in a run each for the Royals, who earned a split in the series after dropping the first two games.

James Shields (6-3) tossed seven effective innings, allowing nine hits and three runs. Aaron Crow made things interesting in the ninth after serving up a three-run homer to Adam Jones, but Greg Holland retired the only two batters he faced to earn his 12th save.

Nick Markakis hit a two-run single and Manny Machado drove in the other run for the Orioles, who sputtered to their sixth loss in eight.

Ubaldo Jimenez (2-5) gave up five runs on eight hits despite fanning seven over five full frames.
