Rockies' Arenado hits in 28th straight game, sets club record

Arlington, TX ( - Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 28 games on Thursday, setting a new franchise record.

He set the record with a line-drive single to shallow center field off Rangers pitcher Matt Harrison with two outs in the top of the third.

Arenado's streak, which is the longest active in the majors, surpassed teammate Michael Cuddyer's 27-game record that was set last season.

The Rockies are now just the second team in the past 100 years to have a player with at least a 27-game hitting streak in consecutive seasons. The last time that this was accomplished was in 2005 and 2006 when Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley had 38 and 35-game hitting streaks, respectively.
