Street earns NL Player of Week honors

New York, NY (Sports Network) - San Diego Padres reliever Huston Street was named National League Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 8.

Street led the NL and tied for the Major League lead with four saves. The right-hander posted a 1-0 record with a 1.80 ERA across five appearances last week. He only surrendered one run and three hits, while fanning four batters in his five innings of works.

In Monday's game against the San Francisco Giants, he retired the side in order to earn his 26th save of the season. The next night, Street entered the game with a 3-2 lead. He gave up a double to Brandon Belt with two outs before inducing a weak comebacker off the bat of Hector Sanchez for the third out.

Also considered for the award were Matt Carpenter and Michael Wacha of the St.Louis Cardinals, Shin-Soo Choo and Homer Bailey of the Cincinnati Reds, Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves, Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pablo Sandoval and Yusmeiro Petit of the Giants and Christian Yelich of the Miami Marlins.
