New York, NY (Sports Network) - Dan Dawson and Brodie Merrill of the Philadelphia Wings and the rookie goaltending duo of Tyler Carlson and Evan Kirk of the Minnesota Swarm have won the NLL Player of the Week awards for Week #6 of the season. Carlson and Kirk pulled off a first of its kind feat - two rookie goaltenders on the same team both winning player awards in the same week.
Dawson earned Offensive Player honors after finishing with a goal and nine assists for 10 points in the Wings' 14-13 win over Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. The win improved Philly to 3-2 and a tie for first place with the Toronto Rock, their opponent on Saturday. Dawson leads the NLL with 27 assists.
Merrill was selected as the Transition Player of the Week. He picked up 10 loose balls to go with a hat trick and two assists against the Bandits. Merrill ranks third in the league with 50 loose balls.
Carlson was picked as the Defensive Player of the Week following his effort during the second-longest game in NLL history. He turned aside 32 of 41 shots and played all 72 minutes, 23 seconds as the Swarm defeated Edmonton 10-9 in overtime on Friday night.
Kirk was voted Rookie of the Week following an outstanding NLL debut.
The sixth overall pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft turned away 46 of 52 shots in Minnesota's 9-6 win over Rochester on Sunday to complete a two-game weekend sweep and push the Swarm back over .500 with a 3-2 record.
The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
