Outstrip takes Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf
Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Outstrip came in from England and rallied down the stretch to capture the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita Park.
Trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by Mike Smith, Outstrip came surging down the stretch in the mile stakes to overtake Giovanni Boldini and early pacesetter Bobby's Kitten. The 2-year-old gray colt posted a three-quarters length win over Giovanni Boldini with Bobby's Kitten getting third in the 13- horse field. Bon Accord was fourth.
Smith, posting his second Breeders' Cup win on the day, guided Outstrip through the mile on a firm turf course in 1:33.20, a new stakes record.
Owned by Godolphin Racing, Outstrip won his third start from five races. The win was worth $570,000 to bring the colt's earnings to $751,034.
Outstrip returned $14.00, $6.80 and $3.60. Giovanni Boldini paid $6.40 and $3.40, and Bobby's Kitten paid $2.40 to show.
