Newton, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Stroke play co-medalists Doug Ghim, Rico Hoey and Byron Meth advanced to the second round of match play at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship with first-round wins on Wednesday.

A fourth co-medalist, Zane Thomas, was knocked out of the championship after losing 1-down to Joshua Lee at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

Ghim led 4-up after eight holes against Ted Moon, then staved off an attempted comeback down the stretch with birdies at the 15th and 16th holes to win 3 & 2.

Hoey won the last four holes against Paul McClure for a 4 & 2 victory and Meth won the first extra hole with a par to beat Vinnie Murphy 1-up.

Defending champion Jordan Niebrugge also remained alive with a 4 & 2 victory over China's Zecheng Dou after narrowly making the stroke-play cut Tuesday.
