Diaz-Yi advances to quarterfinals at Women's Am
Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Lauren Diaz-Yi won a pair of matches on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
Diaz-Yi, who is the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links champion, opened her day with a 2 & 1 victory over stroke-play medalist Yumi Matsubara before cruising to a 4 & 3 decision over Kendall Price in the round of 16.
Diaz-Yi's opponent in the quarters will be Doris Chen, who ousted Kacie Komoto, 3 & 2, in the round of 32 and downed Minjee Lee by a 2 & 1 margin in the next round to advance.
The other three quarterfinal matches will have Yueer Cindy Feng face off against Annie Park, Katelyn Sepmoree taking on Alison Lee and Emma Talley playing Su-Hyun Oh.
Talley was the big winner in the early matches on Thursday with an 8 & 7 decision over Tatiana Wijaya, while Feng won her first match 4 & 2, Park, Sepmoree and Oh advanced with 2 & 1 victories and Lee needed 19 holes to take down Katelyn Dambaugh.
In the round of 16, Feng, Park and Sepmoree each earned 1-up decisions, Talley moved on by a 2-up mark, Lee captured a 3 & 2 win and Oh cruised into the quarterfinals with a 5 & 4 victory.
The quarterfinals and semifinals of the championship will be played on Friday and Saturday, respectively, and the championship will conclude with Sunday's 36-hole final.
