Ko advances while medalist Kim ousted at Women's Am
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Lydia Ko, the top-ranked amateur in the world, won two matches on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
Ko, who won 3 & 2 in the second round over Amy Anderson, fended off Celine Boutier, 1-up, in the third round.
She will face Paula Reto in the quarterfinals on Friday. Reto ousted Jessica Vasilic, 4 & 2, in round three at The Country Club.
While she moved on, stroke-play medalist Hyo-Joo Kim fell 1-down to Nicole Zhang in round three.
Zhang will face Su-Hyun Oh, who beat Jayvie Marie Agojo, 4 & 3, on Friday.
Ariya Jutanugarn, the 2011 Girls Junior champion, beat Ashlee Dewhurst, 3 & 2, in the third round. She will face Erynne Lee on Friday.
Lee, a 2008 semifinalist, fended off Austin Ernst, 2 & 1.
Jaye Marie Green birdied two of the last three holes to beat Lisa McCloskey, 2-up. Green will battle Marijosse Navarro in the quarterfinals.
Navarro never trailed en route to a 3 & 1 win over Madeleine Sheils.
Match play will continue through the 36-hole final on Sunday.
