Kim earns medalist honors at Women's Am

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Hyo-Joo Kim carded her second straight 4- under 68 on Tuesday to claim medalist honors at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.

Kim, the third-ranked women's amateur in the world, finished at 8-under 136 at The Country Club. She was one stroke clear of Lydia Ko (71), the top-ranked amateur in the world.

Ariya Jutanugarn, the second-ranked amateur, also shot 68 to share third place with Alison Lee (71), this year's Girls Junior champion, at minus-5

Sierra Brooks shot 4-under 68 on Tuesday to end in fifth at 4-under 140.

Emily Tubert, Brogan McKinnon, Natalie Gleadall, Alina Ching, Paula Reto and Minjee Lee shared sixth place at minus-3.

There was a 15-for-14 playoff at 5-over par to earn the final spots in match play. Margaret Shirley made double-bogey on the par-4 10th to miss out on the match play portion of the championship.

Latanna Stone, 10, was the third-youngest qualifier in USGA history. She stumbled to rounds of 82-78 to miss by 11 strokes. Brenda Pictor, 56, was the oldest player in the field this week and she was one stroke worse after rounds of 80-81.

The field averaged 20.4 years old to start the week. After finalizing the match play field, the average age of the competitors dropped to 18.67.

The match play portion of the championship starts on Wednesday and will finish with the 36-hole final on Sunday. Thursday will have the second and third rounds of match play.
