Schlesinger romps at Senior Women's Am
Ooltewah, TN (Sports Network) - Lisa Schlesinger was dominant en route to medalist honors Sunday at the USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship.
It continued on Monday in match play.
Schlesinger destroyed Kim Cure to the tune of 8 & 7 to advance to the round of 32 at The Honors Course. Schlesinger will face Frances Gacos on Tuesday after Gacos beat Claudia Pilot, 1-up on Monday.
Schlesinger didn't lose a hole on Monday and in fact, won eight of the 11 holes played. She made only two birdies, but it was enough to comfortably move on in the championship.
Defending champion Mina Hardin pulled out a 1-up victory over Mary Kay Thonas- Zordani on Monday when Hardin won the 17th hole and halved the last.
Hardin will meet Denise Desilet on Tuesday after Amy Ellertson conceded her match to Desilet on the 13th hole.
Carol Semple Thompson, who won this title four years in a row, beat Arline Hoffman, 1-up to advance.
Diane Lang, who won three championships in a four-year span from 2006, lost 2 & 1 to Linda Pearson on Monday. Shelly Herman, the 2009 winner, was also eliminated in the round of 64 when she fell in one extra hole to Susan Rheney.
Carolyn Creekmore and Anna Schultz, both former champions, won on Monday.
The second and third rounds are scheduled for Tuesday, then the quarterfinals and semifinals are on tap for Wednesday. The 18-hole championship will take place on Thursday.
