U.S. Women's Open Format
From The Sports Network
The U.S. Women's Championship is open to any female professional, and to female amateurs with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4. Entries closed May 1. The USGA accepted a record 1,420 entries for 2013.

FORMAT: Four rounds of stroke play will be contested on Thursday, June 27th through Sunday, June 30th. The field will be reduced after 36 holes to the low 60 scorers and any ties for 60th place.

In case of a tie after 72 holes, a three-hole aggregate score playoff will immediately follow. If this playoff results in a tie, the tied players will immediately continue to play off hole-by-hole until the winner is determined.

CHAMPION REWARDS: In addition to prize money, the champion will receive a gold medal, custody of the Harton S. Semple Trophy for the ensuing year and an exemption from qualifying for the next 10 U.S. Womens Open Championships.

TROPHY: The original trophy, which was presented in 1953 by the United States Golf Association, is housed in the USGA Museum and Arnold Palmer Center for Golf History. The original was replaced in July 1992 by the family and friends of Harton S. Semple, who was USGA president in 1973-74. Semple's daughter, Carol Semple Thompson, is a record 12-time member of the USA Curtis Cup Team.
