| NOTES | | | The Champions Tour has its second straight major championship as the top
players return from Europe to compete this week in the U.S. Senior Open. Russ
Cochran closed with back-to-back 67s to come from behind and defeat Mark
Calcavecchia by two strokes at the Senior British Open. Calcavecchia had at
least a piece of the lead after the first three rounds, but closed with a
three-under 69 to end two back. Bernhard Langer had won the Senior British
last year, then flew all the way to Sahalee Country Club and won the U.S.
Senior Open by three strokes. Langer posted four rounds in the 60s to beat
Fred Couples, who ended at five-under thanks to his third-round 65. Inverness
Golf Club is hosting the championship for the second time. In 2003, Bruce
Lietzke beat Tom Watson by two strokes. Watson will not be on hand this week
as he is competing on the PGA Tour. ESPN has coverage of the first two rounds
before NBC takes over for the final two rounds. The Champions Tour heads to
Minnesota next week for the 3M Championship, where David Frost was a
record-setting winner last year.
