NOTES
Thanks to a 36-foot birdie putt on the final hole last year, Tom Pernice, Jr. walked off with a win in his first Champions Tour start. He became the 15th player to win in his Champions Tour debut. Pernice`s final- hole birdie gave him a one-shot win over David Frost and Nick Price Craig Stadler, who won eight times combined in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, is making his final start of the year as he is scheduled to undergo hip replacement surgery in the near future. Pernice will have a hard time repeating as champion as the top two money winners this year -- Bernhard Langer and Fred Couples -- are both in the field along with 23 of the top 30 on the money list. Bruce Lietzke won this title the first two years (2001, 2002) of the event, but there hasn`t been a repeat winner since. The Champions Tour season is winding down as this is the 21st of 26 official events. Golf Channel has tape delayed coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. (et) Friday and Saturday and at 7 p.m. Sunday. The Champions Tour remains in North Carolina next week for the Ensure Classic at Rock Barn, where Jay Haas won last year.
