NOTES
World No. 8 and favorite son Padraig Harrington will lead a strong field at this week`s Irish Open. Harrington and Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, the world No. 19, represent two of the top-three ranked players scheduled to tee off at County Louth Golf Club. No. 16 Lee Westwood will also be on hand. In 2007, Harrington became the first Irishman in 25 years to win the European Tour`s biggest event on the Emerald Isle, knocking off Bradley Dredge in a playoff. Two months later, Harrington claimed his first major championship at the British Open. He enters this year`s Irish Open as the reigning champion of the British Open and PGA Championship after winning both majors last summer. Richard Finch beat Felipe Aguilar by two strokes at last year`s Irish Open thanks, in part, to a seven-under 65 in the third round. It was Finch`s second European Tour win. The Golf Channel will have coverage of all four rounds beginning each day at 9:30 a.m. (et). Next week is the BMW PGA Championship, where Miguel Angel Jimenez birdied the second playoff hole to beat Oliver Wilson.
