NOTES
It`s a historic milestone this week for one of the European Tour`s winningest players. Colin Montgomerie will celebrate his 500th European Tour appearance at the Open de Andalucia. The Scotsman and 2010 European Ryder Cup captain will be in search of his 32nd win. This event serves as a perfect place for Montgomerie to start No. 500. Miguel Angel Jimenez is serving as tournament host and the venue was designed by Jose Maria Olazabal. Both are good friends of Montgomerie and Olazabal will serve as Monty`s assistant captain next year at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales, if the Spaniard doesn`t make the Ryder Cup team on his own. After all of the celebration, there`s still a tournament to defend for Frenchman Thomas Levet. He defeated a 19-year-old Oliver Fisher in a playoff last year and became the winningest Frenchman in European Tour history. The victory was Levet`s fourth and it broke a tie with Jean-Francois Remesy. The win triggered a champagne celebration on the green, a tradition for the French when one of their own tastes victory. The Golf Channel will be your television provider for the championship. Next week is the Open de Portugal and last year`s winner, Gregory Bourdy, is expected to attend.
