Rodriguez wins by 2 in Victoria
Victoria, BC (Sports Network) - Jose de Jesus Rodriguez closed with a four-
under 66 Sunday to earn a two-stroke win at the Times Colonist Island Savings
Open.
Rodriguez ended at 13-under-par 267. It was his second straight win, and
second of his career, on the Canadian Tour.
Wes Homan took second at minus-11 after a final-round 65 at Uplands Golf Club.
Dodge Kemmer (65) and Dustin Risdon (68) shared third place at 10-under 270.
Rodriguez was one stroke clear to start the round and he opened with six
consecutive pars.
The Mexican jumped to 12-under with three birdies in a four-hole span from the
seventh. That pushed his lead to three strokes.
Rodriguez cruised home with seven pars and a single birdie over the final
eight holes. He played the final 34 holes of the tournament without a bogey.
"I played extremely well today, and it feels great to win this event," said
Rodriguez. "This win means so much to me and gets me closer to my dream of
playing on the PGA Tour."
NOTES: Rodriguez picked up $32,000 for the victory...Brock Mackenzie, the 2010
champion, shared fifth place at six-under-par 274 after shooting a 69 in the
final round...The Canadian Tour remains in British Colombia next week for a
new event, The Western Championship.
