Rafael Claux leads Mexican PGA

Mazatlan, Mexico (Sports Network) - Rafael Claux fired a six-under 66 on Saturday to grab the lead after the third round of the Mexican PGA Championship.

Claux finished 54 holes at 14-under 202 and he's two shots clear at Estrella Del Mar Golf and Beach Resort.

Roger Sloan shot a five-under 67 on Saturday and got to second at minus-12.

Defending champion and second-round leader Andy Matthews played four holes on the back nine in four-over to shoot a one-over 73. He fell into a tie for third place with Jose de Jesus Rodriguez (69) and Benjamin Alvarado (69) at nine-under 207.

Claux tallied an early birdie at the par-five second, but he dropped a stroke at the third. He eagled the par-five fifth, but that didn't exactly trigger a great run.

Claux parred the next three, then closed his front nine with a birdie. After Matthews plummeted down the leaderboard, Claux pounced thanks to a birdie at the 12th. He added birdies at 14 and 17 to move into sole possession of the lead.

Claux received non-exempt status on the Canadian Tour after he tied for sixth place at the Florida Winter Qualifying School in late March.

Jeff Rangel (68), Paulo Pinto (69) and Trey Denton (70) share sixth at minus- eight.

Jason Kang (68), Alan Wagner (68) and Mike Mezei (70) are tied for ninth place at seven-under 209.

NOTES: Claux has only two bogeys through 54 holes...Claux has never won on the Canadian Tour and played on the Tour de Las Americas.
