Paris, France (Sports Network) - Formula One's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), will grant more time for organizers of the Bahrain Grand Prix to decide if the event can be held this season.
According to a statement from the FIA on Monday, "The Federation Internationale de l'Automobile has granted the Bahrain Motor Federation and the Bahrain International Circuit an extension until June 3rd, date of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Barcelona [Spain].
"This decision was taken after consultation with the relevant Bahraini authorities and Formula One Management, the international promoter."
The Bahrain GP was scheduled for March 13, but organizers withdrew from hosting the opening round of the 2011 Formula One season due to anti- government protests in that Middle Eastern country.
A decision date for Bahrain was initially scheduled for May 1.
