Lopez still thriving within the Nets disaster

Brook Lopez is averaging 18.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 2.3 apg. to "lead" the 4-48 Nets.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - While the New Jersey Nets are merely a shell of a team, 21-year-old center Brook Lopez has been putting up solid fantasy numbers. Lopez is averaging 18.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 2.3 apg. to "lead" the 4-48 Nets.

He and Devin Harris, who has been injured or playing hurt for much of the season, were supposed to be the core of a young team that included Courtney Lee and Yi Jianlian.

Unfortunately, the "plan" hasn't worked out for New Jersey and they are threatening to break the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers' record for futility which is 9-73.

But Lopez has been playing well through it all. He had seven double-doubles in November and 10 in December. There has been a bit of a drop in January (3) and February (one in six games), but the Stanford alum has still kept up his points and assist production.

There will be no "break' for Lopez - like going to a current contender in a trade. While Harris' name has been mentioned in numerous trade rumors, there is no talk of sending Lopez anywhere. He's the guy the team will build around, with hopefully the addition of the No.1 overall draft choice (ping-pong balls permitting) and a top free agent (the team currently has the most room under the cap). So it's possible that the Nets could get good, or at least better, very quickly.

Meanwhile, for fantasy owners and the few fans who show up at Nets games, Lopez will have to continue to perform under adverse conditions.
