Evans returns for final stretch run

Tyreke Evans had missed five consecutive games with a concussion.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Sacramento guard Tyreke Evans returned from 11 days of inaction and just in time to help you in your final championship stretch drive.

The prohibitive favorite for 2009-10 NBA Rookie of the Year and Fantasy Rookie of the Year, played 39 minutes, scored 17 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out 10 assists. Just another day at the office for the amazing rookie.

Evans had missed five consecutive games with a concussion he suffered in a game against Milwaukee.

The 20-year-old, former University of Memphis star has averaged 20.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 5.6 apg and 1.5 spg in his first season in the pros. Those numbers compare favorably to the other Rookie of the Year candidates; Stephen Curry, Brandon Jennings, Taj Gibson and Darren Collison.

Curry has the only realistic chance of beating out Evans for the fantasy award. Although he scored almost four points-per-game less than Evans, he makes up for it with a better three-point shooting percentage and he's one of the best in the league, rookie or veteran, from the free-throw line.

Jennings, an NBA rookie even though he played a year of pro ball in Europe, started off the season on fire, but a poor shooting percentage from the field hurts his chances. In his favor is a solid floor game and the fact that he is likely the only Rookie of the Year candidate who will lead his team to a playoff berth.

Darren Collison's chances were sealed when he was drafted by New Orleans, a team with one of the top-three point guards in the league. Still, when Chris Paul was sidelined, Collison played as well as any rookie in the league. It's too bad he'll be sharing the spotlight with Paul for the foreseeable future as his fantasy value is limited with the Hornets.
