Week 16 Player Fantasy Rankings - Running Backs

By Thomas J. Harrigan, Fantasy Sports Writer

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Anytime the NFL's leading rusher gets to face the worst run defense in the league, it's a joyous occasion for fantasy owners.

It's even better when it happens during fantasy championship week.

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy should have some huge holes to gallop through Sunday night against the Chicago Bears. Chicago has permitted 1,622 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 301 carries (5.4 ypc) since Week 4.

The Bears only gave up 46 rushing yards to running backs in Week 15, snapping an eight-game streak in which they allowed at least 123 yards to the position, but that's because they played the Cleveland Browns, who were trotting out Edwin Baker, Fozzy Whittaker and Chris Ogbonnaya.

Baker was making his NFL debut after being signed off the Houston Texans' practice squad just five days before the game and he managed to run for 38 yards and a touchdown on eight carries (4.8 ypc) versus the Bears.

Minnesota's Adrian Peterson is expected to return after missing Week 15 with a sprained foot. With both Peterson and Toby Gerhart (hamstring) out, Matt Asiata stepped in and rushed 30 times for just 51 yards but with three touchdowns against Philadelphia.

Fantasy owners shouldn't expect Houston's Dennis Johnson to be this week's Asiata even though the third-stringer will start after Ben Tate (ribs) was placed on injured reserve.

The Denver Broncos are likely to blow out the Texans, forcing Houston to abandon the run. Johnson will have to get many of his touches via the passing game.

Jacksonville's Jordan Todman could be the backup that swings championships if Maurice Jones-Drew has to miss a second straight game with a hamstring injury. Todman had 153 yards from scrimmage (109 rushing) on 29 touches (25 carries) in Week 15 against Buffalo and Tennessee, Jacksonville's Week 16 opponent, has allowed 25.2 fantasy points per game to opposing tailbacks over the last nine games.
