Week 1 Player Fantasy Rankings - Kickers
By Steve Schwarz, Fantasy Sports Editor
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - When it comes to ranking kickers on a weekly basis, it's almost impossible to get them exactly correct. There are simply too many factors involved.
In addition the difference between the NFL's best kicker per-game average and a middle-of-the-pack kicker is likely to be two or three points ... at most.
That being said, there are things to look for when selecting a kicker.
Number one is accuracy. When he's got a chance, he has to take advantage of it. Also, some league deduct points for missed field goals and extra points.
Second is distance. Almost every league has a bonus for 50-yard kicks. Almost as import as a powerful leg is kicking indoors. It's simply a huge advantage not worrying about kicking into the wind or cross breezes.
Finally, you want to have a kicker on an offense that can move the ball well, but isn't so overpowering that they always score touchdowns. You want the drive to stall deep in the opponent's territory.
