Description: Jazz guard Alec Burks went off for 31 points in Monday' loss to Miami.
Insight: That's a new career-high for the 22-year-old. He also had seven blocks and four steals. Rookie Trey Burke may lose his spot in the starting lineup if Burks continues to outplay him (just three points in 31 minutes).
Description: Utah rookie point guard Trey Burke had 20 points and five assists Saturday against the Spurs.
Insight: Burke hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire, but he's getting a lot of chances. He's averaging 14 field goal attempts (4.3 3PA), 14.8 points on 39 percent shooting, 5.6 assists and 1.6 threes over his last 11 games.
Description: Jazz G/F Gordon Hayward put up 30 points in Friday night's win over Denver.
Insight: Hayward couldn't find his stroke from deep (1-of-5) but was 10-of-13 from inside the three-point line. He also had 13 boards and five assists. Hayward has scored 15 or more in each of his last four games.
Description: Utah SF/PF Marvin Williams (heel) is expected to play Wednesday, according to Jazz broadcaster David Locke.
Insight: Williams averaged 14 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 2.1 threes in eight games prior to missing the last four with heel inflammation. It's unclear if he'll rejoin the starting lineup in place of Enes Kanter.
Description: Utah PF/C Derrick Favors (back) should be able to play Wednesday, according to Jazz broadcaster David Locke.
Insight: Favors missed Monday's game with a llower back injury which has been troubling him for a while. When on the court he's an good fantasy option averaging 13.4 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.3 spg, 1.2 bpg.
Description: Utah SF/PF Marvin Williams (heel) is questionable for Monday's game against Portland.
Insight: Williams is dealing with inflammation in his surgically repaired heel, but the injury reportedly is not related to his surgery. If Williams and Derrick Favors (questionable) both sit out, the Jazz will be extremely thin up front.
Description: Utah center Enes Kanter will start Wednesday with Marvin Williams (Achilles) out.
Insight: Kanter has played just 15 minutes per game in three games since returning from an ankle injury. He has averaged 24 minutes, 8.4 points and 5.2 rebounds over his last nine games after averaging 34.5 mpg, 16.4 ppg, 7.6 rpg and 0.8 bpg over his first nine.
Description: Utah rookie point guard Trey Burke had a season-high 20 points with six rebounds, three assists, two steals and four triples Saturday at Phoenix.
Insight: Burke has attempted 15.3 shots (and 5.0 threes) per game over his last three games. He only hit 37 percent overall but made 46.7 percent of his 3-pointers and all six of his free throws. He should be owned in all leagues now that he's healthy.
Description: Jazz center Enes Kanter (ankle) practiced Thursday and will be a game-time decision Friday, according to Aaron Falk of the Salt Lake Tribune.
Insight: Kanter sprained his ankle in Sunday's blowout loss to OKC and missed Monday's game. He has averaged just 11.4 points and 5.9 rebounds over his last 10 games after producing 18.6 and 9.2 in his first five.
Description: Jazz center Enes Kanter is questionable for Monday's game against Chicago with a sprained right ankle.
Insight: X-rays were negative and the 21-year-old Kanter will be re-evaluated Monday. He is averaging almost 32 minutes per game, 13.8 points and 7.0 rebounds which is almost double last season's production.
Description: Utah rookie point guard Trey Burke made his debut as a starter on Sunday against Oklahoma City.
Insight: It wasn't a great start, going 2-of-9 for 4 points with four assists and two rebounds. The good news is that he only turned it over one time. He's still on a minutes limit due to his surgically-repaired finger. At 21-years-old he'll certainly get better if given the time.
Description: Utah G/F Gordon Hayward played 35 minutes Friday night, so his knee must be OK.
Insight: Hayward banged his right kneecap in the first quarter Wednesday but played through the injury and participated in shootaround Friday. His precautionary X-rays were negative. His shot also was better Friday, as he made 5-of-12 from the field one game after going 1-of-17.
Description: Utah G/F Gordon Hayward (knee) will play Friday against the Mavericks, according to Aaron Falk of the Salt Lake Tribune.
Insight: Hayward banged his right kneecap in the first quarter Wednesday but played through the injury and participated in shootaround Friday. His precautionary X-rays were negative. He'll try to bounce back from a dreadful 1-of-17 shooting performance in his last game.
Description: Utah G/F Gordon Hayward (knee) will be a game-time decision Friday against the Mavericks, according to Aaron Falk of the Salt Lake Tribune.
Insight: Hayward banged his right kneecap in the first quarter Wednesday but played through the injury and participated in shootaround Friday. His precautionary X-rays were negative. If he does play, he'll try to bounce back from a dreadful 1-of-17 shooting performance.
Description: Utah point guard Trey Burke's surgically repaired finger is a bit sore after he made his NBA debut Wednesday, but coach Ty Corbin hopes to increase his minutes Friday. SOURCE: Jody Genessy, Deseret News
Insight: Burke missed the team's first 12 games with a broken finger before returning to play 12 minutes Wednesday night. He had 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting in the game. Burke will take over as the starting point guard sooner rather than later and should be owned in all leagues.
Description: Utah G/F Gordon Hayward missed Thursday's practice, according to Jazz beat writer Jody Genessy
Insight: Hayward has a bruised right knee cap. He'll likely be a game-time decision. He's coming off a horrible 1-for-17 shooting performance Wednesday, but he's been a solid fantasy asset this season averaging 18.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 4.9 apg, 1.4 spg, 1.4 threes per contest.
Description: Jazz forward Derrick Favors played well in Friday night's loss to San Antonio.
Insight: The 22-year-old registered 20 points, 18 rebounds, three blocks and three steals. The 18 boards were a career-high. He should see huge minutes this season on a rebuilding Utah squad. That fact alone should be enough to make Favors fantasy relevant.
Description: According to Jazz beat writer Jody Genessy, point guard Trey Burke (finger) has been cleared to dribble and shoot.
Insight: Burke, who broke his right index finger in mid-October, will be reevaluated on Nov. 25. He's expected to start at point guard as soon as he's healthy; the Jazz have been trotting out Jamaal Tinsley and John Lucas III so far.
Description: Jazz swingman Gordon Hayward had a season-high 28 points in Wednesday's loss to Boston.
Insight: Hayward was coming off a 22-point effort Tuesday at Brooklyn. He should score plenty this season as Utah's No. 1 perimeter option, and his value is fortified by averages of 6.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
Description: Utah guard Alec Burks has scored in double figures in all four games this season.
Insight: Burks' best game came in the season opener, as he had 24 points, six rebounds and six assists and the Thunder, but he has scored at least 13 in each of the last three. He's averaging 30 minutes, 16.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 threes so far. His production could have been even better but he has made just 1-of-8 from 3-point range and 18-of-29 from the foul line.
Description: While Utah's Jamaal Tinsley started for the second straight game Tuesday night, John Lucas III once again played more minutes.
Insight: The 30-year-old Lucas has played 31 minutes or more in all four games but is averaging just 8.3 points, 3.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds. He's getting shots (10 FGA, 5.3 3PA per game) but has made just 32.5 percent from the field.
Description: Utah's Brandon Rush (knee) will see minutes in the first half of Tuesday's game, according to Jody Genessy of the Deseret News.
Insight: Rush hasn't played since tearing his ACL on Nov. 2, 2012, when he was with Golden State. The guard has averaged 27 minutes, 9.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 blocks, 0.6 steals and 1.4 threes in 291 career games with the Pacers and Warriors. He can be avoided in fantasy for now as the Jazz ease him back into action.
Description: Utah center Andris Biedrins is doubtful for Tuesday's game against Brooklyn due to a sprained left ankle.
Insight: Biedrins doesn't have much fantasy value playing behind Enes Kanter and Rudy Bobert. His best season was 2008 when he averaged 11.9 ppg and 11.2 rpg at Godlen State but those days are long gone.
Description: Jazz swingman Gordon Hayward nearly had a triple-double Friday at Phoenix.
Insight: Hayward, who will become a restricted free agent following the season after the Jazz were unable to reach a new contract with him prior to the deadline, had 18 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists to go with three threes in the game. He should lead Utah in scoring this season as the team looks to bottom out for a high draft choice.
Description: The Jazz were unable to reach a new deal with swingman Gordon Hayward before Thursday's deadline. SOURCE: Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo Sports
Insight: The fourth-year G/F will now become a restricted free agent after the season. Hayward will have an opportunity to shake off a rough opening night performance (4-for-13 from the field against OKC) Friday when the Jazz take on Phoenix.
Description: According to Jody Genessy of the Deseret News, Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin isn't ready to announce his starting point guard for the season opener Wednesday.
Insight: It was supposed to be Trey Burke, but the rookie suffered a fractured index finger this preseason and will miss 2-4 more weeks. Either John Lucas III or Jamaal Tinsley will start Wednesday's game.
Description: Utah center Andris Biedrins is doubtful for Wednesday's game against Oklahoma City with a strained right rotator cuff.
Insight: Biedrins doesn't have much fantasy value playing behind Enes Kanter and Rudy Bobert. His best season was 2008 when he averaged 11.9 ppg and 11.2 rpg at Godlen State but those days are long gone.
Description: Despite reports to the contrary earlier this week, the Jazz aren't close to signing forward Gordon Hayward to a contract extension.
Insight: ESPN's Marc Stein hinted that the framework for a deal was in place but according to Yahoo that isn't the case. The two sides have until October 31st to work out a new deal. If no agreement is reached, Hayward could become a restricted free agent after the season.
Description: Utah power forward Derrick Favors has agreed to a four-year, $49 million contract extension. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: With Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap gone, the Jazz have decided to build their team around Favors. A former No. 3 pick, Favors (9.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.7 bpg in 2012-13) came to Utah in 2011 as part of the Deron Williams trade.
Description: Jazz point guard Trey Burke (fractured index finger) tweeted Tuesday that he should only be out 4-6 weeks, not 8-12 weeks as Jody Genessy of the Deseret News reported Monday.
Insight: Burke broke his right index finger in a preseason game over the weekend. His official timetable should be made available after he undergoes surgery. John Lucas III still will begin the season as Utah's starting point guard, but Burke will be back sooner than expected.
Description: Jazz point guard Trey Burke will undergo finger surgery on Tuesday. SOURCE: Jody Gennesy, Deseret News
Insight: Burke broke his right index finger in a preseason game over the weekend. He'll miss between eight and 12 weeks, which means that John Lucas III will open the season as Utah's starting point guard.
Description: ESPN's Marc Stein reports that John Lucas III will sign with Utah.
Insight: Lucas appeared in 63 games for the Raptors last season, contributing 5.3 ppg off the bench. The Jazz are hoping Trey Burke will emerge as the starter at point guard but Lucas could fill in until Burke gets the hang of things.
Description: Richard Jefferson was shipped to Utah Friday as part of a four-player trade. SOURCE: Contra Costa Times
Insight: Golden State sent Jefferson, Andris Biedrins, Brandon Rush and a slew of draft picks to the Jazz for Kevin Murphy in what equates to basically a straight salary dump. The deal freed up cap space, which the Warriors promptly used to sign free agent guard/forward Andre Iguodala. At age 33, Jefferson isn't the stat-stuffer that he used to be. He averaged a career-low 3.1 ppg during the 2012-13 campaign. Fantasy owners can probably ignore him next season.
Description: Ken Berger of CBS Sports reports that Charlotte is interested in signing free agent center Al Jefferson.
Insight: The Bobcats just drafted a big man in Cody Zeller but obviously they'd jump at the chance to get Jefferson. ESPN's Marc Stein mentioned last week that Jefferson is unlikely to re-sign with Utah.
Description: Utah big man Al Jefferson was the only one who came to play Wednesday against Memphis (22 points, 16 boards in 40 minutes).
Insight: Jefferson (17.8 ppg, 9.2 rpg) didn't get much help from his teammates as Utah finished with a season-low 70 points in the loss. If it's any consolation to Jazz fans, the Lakers would have made the playoffs anyway by virtue of their win against Houston.
Description: Utah center Enes Kanter (shoulder) will miss the rest of the season, according to the Deseret News.
Insight: Kanter will undergo a minor surgical procedure on his left shoulder. He dislocated the shoulder on March 27 against Phoenix. The 20-year-old could be a starter next season next to Derrick Favors if the Jazz let both Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap leave via free agency.
Description: Jazz center Enes Kanter (shoulder) will miss Friday's game against Portland. He suffered the injury Wednesday.
Insight: Kanter flirted with fantasy relevance earlier this month when Utah big men Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson were both dealing with injuries but he only averaged 15 mpg in the six games prior to Wednesday.
Description: Jazz power forward Paul Millsap missed practice Thursday with "gastric distress," which sounds like a fancier term for an upset stomach. He will travel with the team to Portland and is expected to play Friday.
Insight: Teammate Randy Foye had the same issue but played Wednesday night.
Description: Jazz forward Gordon Hayward had 25 points, six assists, five rebounds and three treys Wednesday against the Suns.
Insight: Hayward is finally getting big minutes for Utah instead of Marvin Williams. The former Butler star is averaging 16.6 points, 3.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 34 minutes since the All-Star break.
Description: Jazz center Enes Kanter left Wednesday's game with an injured left shoulder and will not return.
Insight: Kanter flirted with fantasy relevance earlier this month when Utah big men Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson were both dealing with injuries but he only averaged 15 mpg over his previous six games.
Description: Jazz guard/forward Gordon Hayward exploded for 27 points and eight assists Wednesday against Houston.
Insight: It took Utah a while to figure out Hayward's role but he's settling in nicely as the team's starting small forward. Hayward is averaging 20.3 ppg on 49.1 percent shooting over his last four games.
Description: Jazz power forward Paul Millsap (knee) will be a game-time decision Wednesday against the Thunder.
Insight: Millsap (15.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg) has missed the last two games with a bruised knee. While Derrick Favors has started both he has played just 22 mpg and scored a total of 10 points. Meanwhile, Enes Kanter is averaging 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds during a span of six straight double-digit scoring games.
Description: Utah guard Jamaal Tinsley won't be available Monday against the Pistons. Tinsley is dealing with an illness.
Insight: He's posted 5.5 ppg in his last two contests, which is actually slightly better than his season average (a brutal 3.9 ppg in 52 appearances). The moral of the story is, there is no reason to own Tinsley in fantasy right now.
Description: Jazz power forward Paul Millsap won't be in uniform Monday against the Pistons. Millsap has been dealing with a bruised right knee.
Insight: Millsap (15.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg) also missed Saturday's game against the Knicks so fantasy owners shouldn't be caught off guard by this. Derrick Favors (9.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg) should see a nice boost in fantasy value if Millsap's knee woes continue.
Description: Jazz point guard Mo Williams is back in the starting lineup after missing the last 32 games with a torn thumb ligament.
Insight: Randy Foye, Earl Watson, Jamaal Tinsley and Alex Burks should all see fewer minutes now that Williams is back in the fold. Williams had been averaging 12.9 ppg and 6.7 apg in 31.4 mpg before the injury.
Description: Al Jefferson won't be on the floor Wednesday against Cleveland. The Utah center is still struggling with a sprained left ankle.
Insight: Jefferson (17.7 ppg, 9.4 rpg) hasn't appeared in a game since last Wednesday. Fantasy owners should look to add Derrick Favors (16 ppg, 12.3 rpg in his last three games) or Enes Kanter (20.5 ppg, 16 rpg over his last two games) until Jefferson is cleared to play again.
Description: While Jazz guard Mo Williams (thumb) is listed as out for Wednesday's game, coach Ty Corbin said he isn't ruling him out until they see how he feels during Wednesday's shootaround.
Insight: Williams (12.9 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 6.7 apg), who hasn't played since Dec. 22 due to a torn thumb ligament, is getting closer to a return. He has gone through two full-contact practices. He was averaging 12.9 points and 6.7 assists per game prior to the injury and will move back into his starting role when he returns to action.
Description: Jazz center Al Jefferson missed Tuesday's practice and is doubtful for Wednesday's game against Cleveland.
Insight: Jefferson sprained his ankle last Wednesday against the Hawks and hasn't appeared in a game since. Although Derrick Favors started at center in the last game, Enes Kanter has averaged 20.5 ppg and 16 rpg in the two games since Jefferson has been sidelined and is a viable fantasy option.
Description: Utah backup center Enes Kanter has exploded while starter Al Jefferson has been sidelined, averaging 20.5 ppg and 16 rpg over the past two games.
Insight: Kanter's performance is the reason the Jazz were looking to trade Jefferson and/or PF Paul Millsap at the deadline. Those in keeper league should stash Kanter on their bench if he's still a free agent.
Description: Jazz center Al Jefferson is out for Monday night's game against Milwaukee.
Insight: Jefferson sprained his ankle Wednesday against the Hawks and hasn't appeared in a game since. Jefferson's replacement Enes Kanter played well Friday against Charlotte (23 points, 22 boards) and should be worth a start again tonight.
Description: Jazz center Al Jefferson missed Thursday's practice with an ankle injury and is questionable for Friday's game, according to Jody Genessy of the Deseret News.
Insight: Paul Millsap is also dealing with an ankle injury and missed Wednesday's game. He wasn't at practice either due to the birth of his child but it is unclear if he would have been physically able to participate. Derrick Favors could get his fantasy relevance extended for a few more games.
Description: Utah power forward Derrick Favors had 17 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks in 38 minutes in a spot start Wednesday.
Insight: Favors was filling in for Paul Millsap (sprained ankle). His value is capped when Al Jefferson and Millsap are both healthy, but he has tremendous upside. The big man is still just 21 years old despite having 196 games of NBA experience. Jefferson and Millsap are both free agents so the Jazz will probably turn Favors loose next season.
Description: Jazz forward Paul Millsap will miss Wednesday's game with an ankle injury.
Insight: Millsap played 36 minutes after spraining his ankle in the first quarter on Monday, but he probably experienced swelling after the game. Get Derrick Favors in the lineup for his one-game boost in value.
Description: Utah PF Paul Millsap missed practice on Tuesday and Wednesday morning's shootaround after rolling his ankle in Monday night's loss to Boston. He's listed as a game-time decision.
Insight: Millsap is playing well this season, posting 15.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.6 apg and 1.1 bpg. If he's sidelined, Derrick Favors would see the bulk of his playing time. In two starts this season, Favors has averaged 8.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg.
Description: Utah PF Paul Millsap missed practice on Tuesday after rolling his ankle in Monday night's loss to Boston. He's listed as a game-time decision for Wednesday's game, according to Bill Oram of the Salt Lake Tribune.
Description: Utah shooting guard Gordon Hayward (right shoulder) will return to action Tuesday against Golden State. SOURCE: Jody Genessy, Deseret News
Insight: Hayward has missed 10 straight games with a sprained shoulder. He's a decent enough scorer when healthy (13.5 ppg), though he doesn't contribute much in the other categories (2.9 rpb, 2.5 apg, 0.7 spg, 0.6 bpg).
Description: Utah shooting guard Gordon Hayward (right shoulder) is questionable for Tuesday's game against Golden State
Insight: Hayward has missed 10 straight games. He's a decent enough scorer when healthy (13.5 ppg), though he doesn't contribute much in the other categories (2.9 rpb, 2.5 apg, 0.7 spg, 0.6 bpg) therefore his fantasy value is limited.
Description: The Paul Millsap/Eric Bledsoe trade rumors appear to be losing steam. SOURCE: Dan Woike, Orange County Register
Insight: With Los Angeles trailing San Antonio by just four games in the race for the Western Conference's No. 1 seed, the Clippers will likely stand pat. The Jazz could look elsewhere to deal Millsap (15.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg), who is expected to net a contract of at least $10 million a season in free agency this summer.
Description: ESPN Los Angeles reports that the Clippers and Jazz are talking about a Paul Millsap for Eric Bledsoe trade.
Insight: Bledsoe might be an upgrade over Utah's current starter at point guard, Jamaal Tinsley (4.0 ppg, 5.0 apg) but Millsap's role in Los Angeles wouldn't be quite as clear. Millsap (15.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg) plays the same position as Blake Griffin (18.5, 8.7 rpg), so he might have to settle for a sixth man role if this trade ever materializes.
Description: Jazz point guard Earl Watson is out indefinitely after an MRI revealed a small stress fracture in his right leg.
Insight: Watson is a terrible shooter (30 percent for the season) but a decent ballhandler and a solid distributor (4.2 apg). With that said, he only plays about 18 minutes a game so fantasy owners shouldn't miss him too badly.
Description: Utah guard Gordon Hayward (shoulder) won't play Friday. He said that while his shoulder is improving, he is still feeling pain in certain movements. SOURCE: David Locke, Jazz radio broadcaster
Insight: Hayward has been a solid contributor averaging 13.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.5 apg but he's dealing with a sprained right shoulder. Friday will be his third straight absence and he might not be ready for Saturday either.
Description: Jazz guard Gordon Hayward suffered a grade-1 right shoulder sprain late in Saturday's game against Indiana, but X-rays came back negative. Hayward is considered day-to-day. SOURCE: Jonathan Rinehart, Utah Jazz PR Director
Insight: Hayward is averaging 14.5 ppg in January, his best for any month this season. Utah next plays Monday against the Rockets.
Description: Utah forward Paul Millsap is enjoying his best month of the season in January with averages of 15.8 points on 50.3 percent shooting, 7.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.3 blocks in 12 games.
Insight: Millsap is getting nearly 32 minutes per game this month, up two minutes from December.
Description: Utah center Al Jefferson averaged just 12.3 points in the three games prior to Saturday but he put up 25 points, six rebounds, two steals and one block while making 11-of-20 from the field Saturday night against the Pacers.
Insight: Jefferson's 20 field goal attempts were his most this month. With 17.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.1 blocks, 1.2 turnovers and .478/.846 shooting percentages, Jefferson is one of the top commodities in fantasy basketball.
Description: Jazz forward Marvin Williams (knee) could return to the lineup as soon as Monday against the Heat. "Marvin's coming around," coach Ty Corbin said. "We'll see when we get back (to Utah)." SOURCE: NBA.com
Insight: Williams has missed three straight games with right knee inflammation. The small forward is only averaging 8.9 points and 3.5 boards per game this season so fantasy owners shouldn't be desperate to have him back.
Description: Utah guard Randy Foye drilled three more treys Saturday against the Pistons. He has made 14 shots from long distance over his last four games.
Insight: Foye scored 17 points with two steals in Saturday's game but also turned the ball over five times with zero assists and one rebound. Foye offers virtually nothing in the latter two categories and should only be relied upon for threes in deep leagues.
Description: Jazz forward Marvin Williams (knee) will be sidelined for at least three games due to right knee inflammation. He underwent treatment Tuesday morning and the team wants to see how he'll respond. SOURCE: Bill Oram, Salt Lake Tribune
Insight: Williams' 8.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game will be easily replaceable. In fact, fantasy owners might want to take this chance to move on from the forward completely.
Description: Jazz forward Derrick Favors is averaging 9.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.3 blocks in 22 minutes over his last 11 games.
Insight: Favors has been cutting into Paul Millsap's minutes and received even more playing time -- 31:30, second-most minutes this season -- Friday against Phoenix with fellow youngster Enes Kanter out with an ankle injury.
Description: Jazz power forward Paul Millsap scored 19 points with 10 rebounds, three assists and five steals in 32 minutes and 32 seconds of playing time Friday against the Suns.
Insight: It was just the second time in the last 11 games that Millsap has played 30 minutes. He's only averaging 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals in that span; those aren't the numbers we have come to expect from Millsap.
Description: Jazz center Enes Kanter won't play on Friday at Phoenix due to a sprained right ankle. SOURCE: Jody Genessey, Deseret News
Insight: Kanter is coming off a 15-point, eight-rebound game against the Timberwolves but has only averaged 6.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in 15 minutes per game this season. Derrick Favors could pick up more minutes as a result of Kanter's absence.
Description: Jazz guard Mo Williams will undergo surgery on his right thumb on Friday. He'll be in a splint for six weeks before being re-evaluated. SOURCE: NBA.com
Insight: Williams sprained his right thumb nearly two weeks ago but his first MRI revealed unspecified damage and he had been waiting for the swelling to go down to have another test. Unfortunately, the second MRI revealed what was ultimately a worst-case scenario for fantasy owners.
Description: Jazz guard Mo Williams is heading to New York to finally have the second MRI on his sprained right thumb. SOURCE: Bill Oram, Salt Lake Tribune
Insight: Williams sprained his right thumb nearly two weeks ago but his first MRI revealed unspecified damage and he has been waiting for the swelling to go down to have another test. The second MRI should allow the team to produce a timetable for his return.
Description: Utah power forward Paul Millsap played a season-low 20 minutes Sunday versus the Clippers and was on the bench for the entire fourth quarter.
Insight: Millsap, who finished the night with nine points on 2-of-7 shooting, has been losing minutes to Derrick Favors and no longer appears to be a reliable fantasy option. He's only played 30 minutes once in his last seven appearances.
Description: Jazz forward Paul Millsap is only averaging 12.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.5 blocks per game in his last eight.
Insight: Millsap scored 20-plus in four straight before his current stretch of eight straight games without a 20-point game. He hasn't shot any worse than his season average during that span but has attempted just 9.1 field goals per game compared to a season average of 11.2.
Description: Jazz center Al Jefferson made seven baskets on 17 attempts Friday against the Clippers while also hitting all eight of his free throws. He finished with 22 points and eight rebounds with two steals and two blocks in 33 minutes.
Insight: Jefferson's points are down 2.7 per game but his rebounds are up and he's also shooting a career-best 85.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Description: Jazz shooting guard Randy Foye bested his previous season high by eight points Friday night, scoring 28 points on 8-of-13 shooting and making 5-of-9 from 3-point range. He added five rebounds.
Insight: Foye has started the last 21 games for Utah but his production has actually dipped despite playing more minutes.
Description: Jazz guard Mo Williams will have another MRI when the team gets back to Salt Lake City after the first one revealed unspecified damage. SOURCE: Jody Genessy, Deseret News
Insight: Williams said Saturday that the injury remindeded him of when he tore a ligament in his thumb in 2008, requiring offseason surgery. He's out indefinitely until the team can re-examine him once the swelling subsides. Williams said he figured the injury was "significant" when it caused him a lot of pain during his daily routine.
Description: Jazz guard Mo Williams left Saturday's game with a sprained right thumb. He'll have an MRI to see if there is any ligament damage. SOURCE: Salt Lake Tribune
Insight: Williams said the injury remindeded him of when he tore a ligament in his thumb in 2008, requiring offseason surgery. "It's the same feeling," Williams said. "I'm just crossing my fingers that the MRI is negative." The Jazz said Saturday that the team is still deciding if the MRI will take place Sunday in Orlando or once the team returns to Utah. He's doubtful to play Sunday against the Magic. Jamaal Tinsley and Earl Watson will handle PG duties, with Tinsley serving as a decent add for assist-needy fantasy owners.
Description: With 11 points Saturday against the Heat, Jazz power forward Paul Millsap is only averaging 10.8 ppg his last five games.
Insight: Millsap scored 20-plus in four straight before a current five-game stretch in which he has tallied a high of 12 points. This is the second time this season he has followed up a brief stretch of dominance with some mediocrity -- he averaged 25.3 ppg from Nov. 12-16 but only 9.8 ppg his next nine.
Description: Jazz center Al Jefferson has scored just 10 points total his last two games while shooting 3-for-16. He at least chipped in with 11 rebounds and two blocks Saturday after picking up six boards to go with four points Wednesday.
Insight: Jefferson has been excellent this season so there's no reason to think this is anything more than a simple cold streak, unless it's related to the back spasms that caused him to miss a game earlier this month.
