VMI ready for two FBS opponents, SoCon return in 2014

Lexington, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - VMI football will take on FBS members Bowling Green and Navy and return to the Southern Conference as part of a 12- game schedule in 2014.

The Keydets will visit Bowling Green on Sept. 6 and Navy on Oct. 11. It will be the first time since 2010 (Virginia and Army) that VMI has faced two FBS opponents in the same season.

The Keydets also will return to the Southern Conference, where it played 79 years as a member from 1924-2003 before making an 11-year run in the Big South Conference. Within conference play, VMI will host Mercer (Sept. 27), Furman (Nov. 1) and rival The Citadel (Nov. 22) in the "Military Classic of the South" as well as visit Samford (Sept. 20), Chattanooga (Oct. 4), Wofford (Oct. 25) and Western Carolina (Nov. 15).

They Keydets, who were 2-10 this past season under coach Sparky Woods, also will travel to Bucknell (Aug. 30), and host Davidson (Sept. 13) and Gardner- Webb (Oct. 18).
