Elon fires football coach Swepson

Elon, NC (Sports Network) - When Elon switches conferences next season, its football program will have a new head coach.

Elon fired Jason Swepson on Monday after three seasons, including a 2-10 record and last-place finish alongside Western Carolina in the Southern Conference this year.

Swepson was 10-24 overall and 5-19 in SoCon games at Elon. The Phoenix will move to the Colonial Athletic Association next year.

"I want to thank Coach Swepson for his hard work and dedication to our football program during his time at Elon," athletic director Dave Blank said in announcing a national search for a new head coach.

"At this time, however, I believe that a change in leadership is necessary to move our program forward and provide the best opportunity for Elon student- athletes to succeed."
