Appalachian State names Satterfield football coach

Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Interim football coach Scott Satterfield has been named Jerry Moore's successor as Appalachian State's head coach.

Satterfield, a 39-year-old former ASU quarterback and long-time assistant for the Mountaineers who returned last season after three years away from the program, was named interim head coach on Dec. 2 after the Southern Conference university announced Moore's contract would not be renewed following 24 seasons.

Satterfield spent 11 seasons as an ASU assistant from 1998-2008, left for assistant positions at Toledo (2009) and Florida International (2010-11), and then returned this past year. He served as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator in Moore's final season.

"It is with great pride that we announce that Coach Satterfield has agreed to lead Appalachian State's football program into a new era," athletic director Charlie Cobb said. "Scott has been successful in every role that he has filled during his 15-year coaching career and obviously has great familiarity and love for Appalachian State."

Satterfield played for ASU from 1992-95, starting 27 games and earning All- SoCon first-team honors as a senior.

The Mountaineers posted an 8-4 record and earned a share of its seventh SoCon title in eight seasons this season. They qualified for the FCS playoffs for the eighth straight season.
