Georgia Southern suspends Russell after arrest

Statesboro, GA (Sports Network) - Georgia Southern has suspended All-America nose tackle Brent Russell indefinitely after being arrested earlier this week.

He was arrested by campus police early Sunday and charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of a law enforcement officer, the Savannah Morning News reported.

Russell's arrest occurred a few hours after the Eagles lost a home game to Southern Conference rival Appalachian State. He was arrested outside of Rude Rudy's restaurant after police arrived on the scene to break up a fight in the parking lot, asked him to leave several times and he did not comply.

Russell, a 6-foot, 300-pound senior from Corner, Ga., is a three-time nominee for the Buck Buchanan Award which honors the FCS outstanding defensive player. He made The Sports Network FCS All-America first team as a junior last year.

Seventh-ranked Georgia Southern (7-2), which is in first place in the Southern Conference, hosts Howard in a non-conference game Saturday and wraps up the regular season on Nov. 17 at the University of Georgia.
