Samford adds N.C. State transfer

Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Former North Carolina State linebacker Hans Rice has transferred to Samford, Bulldogs head coach Pat Sullivan announced Thursday.

The 6-foot-2, 217-pound Rice, from Eufaula, Ala., has three seasons of eligibility remaining. He was a redshirt at North Carolina State in 2009 and played in one game last season, tallying one tackle.

"We are excited about having Hans join our team," Sullivan said. "He's a player we were aware of when he was in high school. He is an outstanding person and a good football player and we are excited to get him in camp."

Samford opens its season on Sept. 3 by hosting Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern.
