Raiders select Eastern Washington RB Jones

New York, NY (Sports Network) - The Oakland Raiders selected Eastern Washington junior running back and kickoff returner Taiwan Jones with the 28th pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft Saturday -- the 125th overall selection.

The 6-foot, 197-pound Jones, a breakaway runner whom many rival coaches described as one of the best runners in FCS history, fell slightly farther in the draft than in many projections.

The Antioch, Calif., native was injury-prone during his college career. Over the last two seasons, he rushed for nearly 3,000 yards on over 7.7 yards per carry, and caught 64 passes.

Jones missed the national semifinals and final with a broken left foot while Eastern Washington won its first FCS title this past season.

Jones, though, indicated his foot has healed well when at an April 14 pro day in Pittsburg, Calif., he tested exceptionally well, including a 40-yard dash time of 4.33 seconds.
