Western Illinois to visit Missouri, play five at home
Macomb, IL (Sports Network) - Western Illinois football will play five home games and travel to the University of Missouri as part of a 2011 schedule announced on Tuesday.
The Leathernecks will open their 11-game season on Thursday, Sept. 1 at Sam Houston State before facing Jacksonville in their home opener Saturday, Sept. 10 at Hanson Field.
They will then play Missouri for the first time since 2000 when they travel to Columbia Sept. 17.
In addition to the Jacksonville game, Western Illinois will play four Missouri Valley Football Conference contests at home: Southern Illinois on Homecoming Day Oct. 1; Missouri State Oct. 22; South Dakota State Nov. 12; and North Dakota State Nov. 19.
The rest of the schedule are MVFC games at Northern Iowa Sept. 24; Indiana State Oct. 15; Youngstown State Oct. 29; and Illinois State Nov. 5.
Coach Mark Hendrickson's squad went 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the MVFC while reaching the second round of the FCS playoffs last season.
