Rhode Island to kick off 2011 at Syracuse

Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Rhode Island football will open its 2011 season at Big East opponent Syracuse and play five home games at Meade Stadium.

The Rams will take on the Orange in the Carrier Dome on Sept. 10.

Coach Joe Trainer's squad will then open CAA Football on Sept. 17 at Massachusetts.

URI then welcomes Fordham for its home opener on Sept. 24. From there, the Rams make the short trip to Providence on Oct. 1 to take on in-state rival Brown for the 30th annual Governor's Cup game.

The Rams will host first-year CAA Football member Old Dominion (Oct. 8), visit Maine (Oct. 15), host FCS runner-up Delaware (Oct. 22) and visit New Hampshire (Oct. 29).

In November, URI will host William and Mary (Nov. 5), travel to James Madison (Nov. 12) and host Towson (Nov. 19).

The Rams finished 5-6 overall and 4-4 in the CAA last season - a four-game improvement from 2009.
