Elon names Swepson head football coach

Elon, NC (Sports Network) - Jason Swepson was named head football coach at Elon University on Monday.

Swepson spent the last four seasons at the FBS level as running backs coach at North Carolina State, helping the Wolfpack to a pair of bowl games.

Elon athletic director Dave Blank said he was convinced Swepson was the right choice to coach the Phoenix "from our first conversation to our conversation [Sunday] night."

"We were looking for someone that's demonstrated he's had a positive influence and will be a positive role model for our student-athletes," Blank said.

Swepson coached under Tom O'Brien at NC State and was also the running backs coach for O'Brien at Boston College from 1999-2006.

Elon went 6-5 this past season and was 5-3 in the Southern Conference. Head coach Pete Lembo resigned to take the same job at Ball State.
