Warren fuels Grambling State in Bayou Classic
New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Frank Warren rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns to help Grambling State break a Bayou Classic series tie with a 38-17 win over Southwestern Athletic Conference rival Southern University at the Louisiana Superdome on Saturday.
Grambling (9-2, 8-1) won for the third straight year to take a 19-18 series lead. The crowd of 43,494 was the smallest in series history.
Warren, Grambling State's all-time leading rusher, scored on a pair of 1-yard runs and a 16-yard run. He needed 246 yards in his final game to break Destry Wright's SWAC record of 4,049 career yards for Jackson State from 1997-99.
Quarterback Anthony Carrothers also had a big game for the Tigers, passing for 167 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 41 yards.
Jomarcus Savage added a 17-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Southern's first season under head coach Stump Mitchell ended with a six-game losing streak and a 2-9 record - the first nine-loss season in program history. The Jaguars were 1-8 in SWAC games.
