John Edwards
Edwards has played his entire career in the role of "Mr. Intangible," as the only numbers that seem to support his generous talent as a quarterback can be found in the win-loss column. Edwards threw just 14 touchdown passes in Montana's national championship season, one more than the number of wins the Grizzlies had with him in the lineup. He threw for 300 yards just once (vs. I-A Idaho), ran for 100 once (in the national semifinals against Northern Iowa), and rarely displayed the flash of Griz predecessors Dave Dickenson, Brian Ah Yat, or Drew Miller. An amazing penchant for good decision-making is where Edwards has the market cornered, however. The Billings native didn't throw a single interception after Oct. 20, a span of eight games (all wins) and 187 passes. The most underrated quarterback in I-AA? Maybe the most underrated quarterback in college football.

Weber State head coach Jerry Graybeal on Edwards, "He's a winner. He obviously has full command of what they do and how they win games, and runs their offense extremely well. I think when people think of Montana they always think of throwing the ball like the old days, but they were probably the most balanced running/passing team in our conference [last year]. He's a winner, if there's a game on the line in a critical situation he makes plays. He beat us two years in a row, get him in critical situations late in the game, third and seven, third and eight and he makes a play and breaks you down. He's real, real solid."
