NCAA Game Summary - Nebraska at Iowa State

Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Bret Meyer threw for 345 yards and three
touchdowns, as the Iowa State Cyclones outlasted the Nebraska Cornhuskers,
34-27, in a Big 12 Conference battle at Jack Trice Stadium.
Meyer completed 17-of-38 passes and was also intercepted once, as Iowa State
(5-4, 3-3 Big 12) won its third-straight game. Todd Blythe was Meyer's
favorite target with eight catches for 188 yards and a touchdown.
Nebraska (5-4, 3-3) was led by quarterback Joe Dailey, who completed 18-of-42
passes for 230 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Cory Ross led the
Cornhuskers' rushing attack with 126 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.
The first quarter belonged to Iowa State, as the Cyclones scored 10-unanswered
points. Bret Culbertson kicked a 28-yard field goal and Meyer threw a four-
yard touchdown pass to Ben Barkema to give Iowa State a 10-0 lead with 4:18
left in the opening stanza.
Nebraska got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter when Dailey threw a
six-yard touchdown pass to Steve Kriewald to cut the Cyclones' edge to 10-7.
Iowa State closed out the scoring in the second quarter by putting up 14-
straight points. Stevie Hicks found the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown run
and Meyer connected with Blythe on a 17-yard scoring toss to push the
Cyclones' advantage to 24-7 at the break.
Culbertson pushed the Cyclones' lead to 27-7 when he split the uprights on a
37-yard field goal attempt midway through the third quarter.
The Cornhuskers responded with a two-yard touchdown run by Ross, which trimmed
the Iowa State lead to 27-14.
Meyer capped a three-play, 80-yard Iowa State drive with a 77-yard touchdown
strike to Jon Davis to extend the Cyclones' advantage to 34-17 late in the
third quarter.
The fourth quarter was all Nebraska, as it racked up 13-unanswered points.
However, it was too little too late, as Iowa State was able to hang on for the
seven-point victory. Brandon Jackson scored both of the Cornhuskers'
touchdowns in the final quarter, the first on a six-yard run and the second on
a one-yard plunge.
Iowa State tallied 466 total yards of offense in contest, while the
Cornhuskers gained 444 yards.
