Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - John Pettigrew ran for 136 yards on 24
carries to help lead the Bowling Green Falcons to a 24-3 victory over the
Eastern Michigan Eagles in a Mid-American Conference game at Doyt Perry
Stadium.
Bowling Green (6-3, 4-1 MAC) has won five straight games. Quarterback Matt
Schilz completed 9-of-20 passes for 78 yards. Receiver Shaun Joplin caught two
passes for 58 yards and scored once.
Eastern Michigan (1-7, 0-4), which is coming off a win against Army, struggled
offensively all day. Tyler Benz completed 11-of-24 passes for 114 yards, threw
one interception and was sacked five times. Running back Bronson Hill only had
57 yards rushing on 13 carries.
On the opening drive, the Falcons scored first on a trick play when Jordan
Hopgood completed a pass to Shaun Joplin for 53 yards.
The Eagles came right back when Dylan Mulder made a 42-yard field goal.
Andre Givens capped an eight-play, 84-yard drive as he ran for a 27-yard
touchdown to put the Falcons up 14-3 at the end of one period of play and
eventually the first half.
In the second half BGSU added to the lead as Chris Jones recovered
a fumble and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown to make the score 21-3.
Early in the fourth quarter, Tyler Tate made a 28-yard field goal for the
Falcons and added on to their lead, 24-3.
Bowling Green outgained EMU in total yards, 356-178, and held the Eagles to
just 3-of-12 on third down. Ranked last in the nation in rushing yards allowed
(313.4 ypg), Eastern Michigan permitted 225 net yards to the Falcons on the
afternoon.
