Final Score: UAB 21, Texas-El Paso 6
Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Bryan Ellis threw three touchdown passes in
the second half to lead the UAB Blazers to a 21-6 win over the Miners of
Texas-El Paso in a Conference USA battle at Legion Field.
Ellis finished the contest 20-of-28 for 272 yards for the Blazers (2-4, 1-2 C-
USA) as they snapped a two-game slide. Frantrell Forrest reeled in seven
passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns, all game highs for the UAB receiver.
The Miners (5-2, 2-2) were paced by kicker Dakota Warren who made both of his
field goal attempts, but the rest of the offense failed to provide much
support. Quarterback Trevor Vittatoe converted 15-of-33 passes for 169 yards,
but he was sacked twice and had three passes picked off.
Following a scoreless first quarter, UTEP put the only points of the first
half on the board as Warren knocked through a 25-yard field goal at the 11:53
mark of the frame.
Holding a slim 3-0 lead in the third, UTEP added to it when Warren converted a
20-yard field goal less than four minutes into the second half. From there,
the game belonged to Ellis and the Blazers.
Ellis capped a 12-play, 74-yard drive late in the third with a three-yard
touchdown pass to Jeffery Anderson to put the home team ahead for good at 7-6.
Ellis and Forrest put the game out of reach in the fourth period when they
hooked up on touchdown passes of 20 and 10 yards, the Blazers cruising to the
15-point win from there.
The Miners finished the day with a mere 229 yards of total offense and
converted just 4-of-13 on third down.
