NCAA Game Summary - Southern Miss at Louisiana Tech

Ruston, LA (Sports Network) - Austin Davis threw for 233 yards and one touchdown as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles narrowly defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 13-12 in a non-conference clash at Joe Aillett Stadium.

Davis connected on 22-of-38 passes in the win for Southern Miss (3-1), while also leading the way with 69 rushing yards on 18 carries. Kelvin Bolden caught just two balls, one for a score, amassing 79 yards receiving on the night.

Louisiana Tech (1-3) was led by quarterback Tarik Hakmi, who threw for 262 yards on 22-of-35 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Danny Hrapmann booted a 45-yard field goal to give Southern Miss the lead midway through the opening quarter.

Louisiana Tech answered back with a field goal of its own, as Matt Nelson split the uprights from 29 yards out. The score would stay that way as time expired in the first half.

The Golden Eagles came out hot to start the second half, taking just six plays to go 60 yards, capping the drive with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Davis to Kelvin Bolden.

Hrapmann then connected on a 37-yard field goal for Southern Miss, as the Golden Eagles took a 13-3 lead into the final quarter.

The Bulldogs cut the lead to 13-7 after a 19-yard touchdown completion from Hakmi to Richie Casey.

Louisiana Tech then blocked a punt on the next possession for Southern Miss, deflecting the football through the back of the end zone of the Golden Eagles for a safety. The Bulldogs now trailed 13-12.

Southern Miss was able to play solid defense and ultimately held off Louisiana Tech for the well-fought 13-12 win.
