Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Brandon McManus hit a 30-yard field goal
in overtime to lift Temple over Central Michigan, 13-10, in a Mid-American
Conference clash at Lincoln Financial Field.
Chester Stewart finished 16-of-22 for 151 yards for the Owls (2-0, 1-0 MAC),
who won the first two games of a season for the first time since 1981 when
they topped William & Mary and Syracuse.
Bernard Pierce left the game with a left-hand injury late in the contest, but
racked up 57 yards and a score on 10 carries.
Ryan Radcliff went 25-of-35 for 299 yards and a pair of interceptions for the
Chippewas (1-1, 0-1), who opened up their season with a 33-0 win over Hampton.
Cody Wilson led all receivers with seven receptions for 153 yards while Paris
Cotton gained 40 yards and a TD on 16 carries in defeat.
Pierce rolled in from the four with 1:33 left in the first half to give Temple
a 7-0 advantage.
The visitors knotted the score with 7:45 to play in the third as Cotton
rumbled into the end zone for a one-yard score, capping a four-play, 82-yard
McManus followed by ending Temple's ensuing drive with a 31-yard field goal
for a 10-7 Owls advantage.
Central Michigan converted a 4th-and-5 from the Temple 29 inside three minutes
to play, but a fumble and two interceptions stalled the charge and led to a
successful 31-yard attempt with 1:11 to play from David Harman that tied the
Radcliff was picked off in the end zone by Kee-ayre Griffin during Central
Michigan's opening possession of overtime. Temple got McManus within striking
range on its drive after five straight rushes to the CMU 13.
