Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - Danny O'Brien threw for three touchdown
passes to lead the Maryland Terrapins to a slim, 24-21 victory over the Boston
College Eagles in ACC play at Alumni Stadium.
O'Brien finished with 182 yards on 26-of-39 passing for Maryland (5-2, 2-1
ACC), while Torrey Smith finished with 34 yards and one score on eight
Montel Harris led the way for Boston College (2-5, 0-4), as the tailback
rumbled for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Chase Rettig threw for
189 yards and one touchdown, but was also intercepted twice in the setback.
The lone touchdown of the first quarter was scored by Maryland, as O'Brien
connected with Smith for a two-yard touchdown pass.
The Eagles evened the score at seven apiece early in the second stanza when
Rettig connected with Bobby Swigert for a three-yard touchdown.
Maryland responded with two straight touchdowns, as O'Brien first hit Ronnie
Tyler with a nine-yard scoring strike, and followed that with a six-yard
touchdown pass to Kerry Boykins.
The Terps increased their lead to 24-7 late in the third quarter, as Maryland
capped off a 13-play, 74-yard drive with a 26-yard field goal by Travis Baltz.
The Eagles soared back in the final frame thanks to two touchdown runs by
Harris of one and three yards, respectively.
However, the defense for Maryland was able to hold on to the slim three-point
lead down the stretch, earning its third win in four games.
