Reno, NV (Sports Network) - Luke Lippincott ran for 149 yards and three
touchdowns on only 10 carries to lead the Nevada Wolf Pack to a 52-14 romp
over the Fresno State Bulldogs in a Western Athletic Conference tilt.
Vai Taua added 179 yards and two touchdowns on 17 attempts for Nevada (7-3,
Ryan Colburn passed for 362 yards and two touchdowns in the loss for Fresno
State (6-4, 5-2).
The Bulldogs scored the first points of the game on a 57-yard touchdown pass
from Colburn to Jamel Hamler with 11:47 remaining in the first quarter.
Less than three minutes later, Nevada tied the tilt on a 50-yard touchdown run
Fresno State came right back, as Colburn tossed a three-yard touchdown pass to
Seyi Ajiroututu to grab a 14-7 lead for Fresno State with 6:24 remaining in
the first quarter. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they didn't score another
point in the clash, as they were outscored 45-0 the rest of the way.
In the final minute of that opening stanza, Nevada cut its deficit to 14-10 on
a 40-yard field goal by Richard Drake.
The second quarter was completely dominated by the Wolf Pack, as a one-yard
touchdown run by Lippincott and a 65-yard scoring scamper by Taua gave the
team a 24-14 edge by intermission.
Then, less than three minutes into the third quarter, Colin Kaepernick capped
a 67-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown run that extended the Nevada lead to
31-14. Lippincott raced 27 yards for a score less than two minutes later, and
the Wolf Pack led 38-14 after three periods.
In the final frame, Lippincott reached the end zone on a four-yard run, and
Kaepernick scored on a 21-yard run to bring the score to its final of 52-14.
