NCAA Game Summary - San Diego State at U-N-L-V

(Saturday, November 28th)

Final Score: UNLV 28, San Diego State 24

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - A 17-yard touchdown pass from Omar Clayton to Phillip Payne with 1:24 to play proved to be the difference as the UNLV Rebels battled back to capture a 28-24 win against the San Diego State Aztecs in Mountain West Conference play at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Clayton finished the contest 21-of-35 for 274 yards and survived a couple of interceptions and two sacks to get UNLV (5-7, 3-5 MWC) into the win column in the final game for head coach Mike Sanford.

The Aztecs (4-8, 2-6) were led by Ryan Lindley who converted 25-of-45 passes for 341 yards and a score, but he too was picked off twice and sacked three times.

On the first possession of the game UNLV's Channing Trotter made his way into the end zone on a 29-yard run to put the home team up 7-0.

SDSU then scored 24 unanswered points as Lindley connected with Robert Wallace on a 15-yard strike and Luke Laolagi picked off a Clayton pass and returned it 55 yards for the score to boost the Aztecs lead to 14-7.

The only scoring of the second quarter came courtesy of a one-yard TD run by Brandon Sullivan, the running back finishing with a mere nine yards on 10 carries.

The scoring run continued for the Aztecs in the second half as Lane Yoshida booted a successful 26-yard field goal, providing the visitors with what seemed like an insurmountable 24-7 advantage.

The Rebels began their comeback bid with a seven-yard TD run by Clayton and added to it with a 40-yard interception return for a score by Terrance Lee, making the score 24-21 and setting the stage for Payne's game-winning grab.

UNLV picked up the win despite scoring on only two of its four opportunities inside the red zone and allowing the visitors to produce 445 yards of total offense.
