NCAA Game Summary - Pittsburgh at Louisville

(Friday, October 2nd)

Final Score: Pittsburgh 35, Louisville 10

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Bill Stull threw three touchdown passes to help the Pittsburgh Panthers defeat the Louisville Cardinals, 35-10, in the Big East opener for both programs.

Stull finished with 242 yards passing on 16-of-23 attempts for the Panthers (4-1, 1-0 Big East), who rebounded from a 38-31 loss at NC State last week. Dion Lewis gained 87 yards on 21 carries, while Ray Graham rushed for 75 yards and a score.

Dorin Dickerson had two scoring receptions and Jonathan Baldwin caught four passes for 105 yards, including a lengthy touchdown grab.

Adam Froman completed 18-of-30 passes for 166 yards for the Cardinals (1-3, 0-1), who have dropped their last three outings after opening the season with a 30-10 win over Indiana State.

A one-yard plunge up the middle by Joe Tronzo opened the scoring for Louisville, but the Panthers answered on the subsequent series when Stull's high throw grazed the fingertips of intended receiver Cedric McGee and landed into the waiting hands of Dickerson for a five-yard TD with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter.

Pittsburgh was on the move in the early stages of the second stanza, advancing deep into Cardinals territory. Graham caught a screen pass and, while battling for extra yards, lost the handle inside the 10-yard-line. Lou Walker recovered the fumble for the home team.

A 41-yard scoring play between Stull and Oderick Turner on the Panthers' next offensive sequence was negated by off-setting infractions.

Ryan Payne booted a 32-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the first half to give Louisville a three-point lead.

Pitt struck on the opening drive of the third quarter as Stull and Dickerson hooked up for a 37-yard touchdown.

Louisville turned the ball over on the ensuing series. The Panthers quickly capitalized on the Froman fumble as Stull threw a 71-yard TD pass to Baldwin on the next play to make it 21-10 in favor of the visitors.

Graham and Henry Hynoski tacked on rushing scores in the final frame.
