NCAA Game Summary - Central Michigan at Arizona

Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) - Alex Zendejas knocked through four field goals to help give the Arizona Wildcats a 19-6 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas at Arizona Stadium in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Also putting points on the board for the Wildcats (1-0) was running back Nic Grigsby as he gained a team-best 118 yards on 23 carries in the win. Quarterback Matt Scott finished the night 19-of-30 for 202 yards and an interception.

The Chippewas (0-1) were paced by Dan LeFevour who converted 18-of-31 passing for 108 yards, was intercepted once and sacked two times in the setback.

Arizona scored the first 16 points of the game, beginning with field goals of 36 and 37 yards by Zendejas in the first quarter. A three-yard TD run by Grigsby in the second frame gave the home team a 13-0 advantage at the break.

Late in the third quarter Zendejas capped a 12-play, 79-yard drive with another 37-yard field goal to put the Wildcats up 16-0.

The Chippewas finally broke through when LeFevour made his way into the end zone on a five-yard run, finishing off a nine-play, 73-yard drive less than three minutes into the fourth period.

Putting the game out of reach, Zendejas converted a 35-yard field goal at the 8:45 mark of the fourth, his fourth conversion in five tries on the night.

CMU was held to just 11 first downs and 182 yards of total offense, compared to 448 yards for the home team.

The start of the game was delayed due to lightning.
