NCAA Game Summary - Indiana at Purdue

Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) - The Purdue Boilermakers rolled to a 21-0
second-quarter lead and went on to defeat the Indiana Hoosiers 38-21 in Big
Ten action.
Joey Elliott was 21-of-29 through the air for 205 yards and a career-high
four touchdowns, as the Boilermakers (5-7, 4-4 Big Ten) prevailed in the
annual rivalry game. Jaycen Taylor had a big day for Purdue, running for 110
yards while also catching seven balls for 59 yards and a touchdown. Keith
Smith caught five passes for 85 yards and a score.
Ben Chappell was 23-of-39 through the air for the Hoosiers (4-8, 1-7),
finishing with 266 yards and two scores against two picks. Mitchell Evans
caught 10 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown, and Darius Willis ran for 142
yards.
The Boilermakers opened the scoring three minutes into the first quarter when
Taylor caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Elliott. Dan Dierking reeled in a
four-yard throw from Elliott with five minutes left in the period to give
Purdue a 14-0 lead.
Elliott connected with Jared Crank on a 13-yard throw with two minutes left in
the first half to extend Purdue's lead to 21-0.
Indiana got on the board just before halftime when Chappell scored on a one-
yard run, but Purdue extended its lead to 21 points once again when Al-Terek
McBurse returned the second-half kickoff 87 yards for a score.
Chappell connected with Evans on a 12-yard scoring pass with four minutes left
in the third period to make it a 28-14 game.
Carson Wiggs extended Purdue's lead to 17 points with a 38-yard field goal
with a minute-and-a-half left in the quarter.
Indiana drew to within 10 points at 31-21 when Chappell hit Demarlo Belcher
with a 28-yard scoring pass with eight minutes to play.
Elliott, however, hooked up with Smith on a 31-yard toss with just over two
minutes remaining to complete the scoring.
The Hoosiers had the edge in total yardage, 462-329, but turned the ball over
four times.
Purdue now has a 70-36-6 lead in the longstanding series.
