West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) - Jimmy Clausen threw a two-yard touchdown
pass to Kyle Rudolph with 24.8 seconds remaining, lifting the Notre Dame
Fighting Irish to a 24-21 win over the Purdue Boilermakers in non-league
showdown at Ross-Ade Stadium.
Clausen, who was hobbled by a turf toe injury, shared time with Dayne Crist,
but returned when the game was on the line. With Notre Dame trailing 21-17
with 3.41 to go, Clausen led the Irish down field and found Rudolph on fourth
down for the game-winning score.
On the night, Clausen completed 15-of-26 tosses for 171 yards with one pick
for the Irish (3-1), while Crist hit on 5-of-10 pass attempts for 45 yards.
Robert Hughes headed the ground attack with 68 yards and a touchdown on 15
carries and Golden Tate added 55 yards and a score on nine attempts. Tate also
led Notre Dame with five receptions for 57 yards.
Joey Elliott had a nice game for Purdue (1-3), as he converted 22-of-38 throws
for 289 yards and three touchdowns against just one pick. His main target was
Keith Smith, who hauled in 11 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown.
Purdue opened the game's scoring with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Elliott to
Aaron Valentin just a few minutes into the first quarter.
Notre Dame posted its first points behind a Nick Tausch 34-yard field goal
late in the first period.
In the second quarter, Hughes had a two-yard run to paydirt and Tate scored
several minutes later on a 14-yard run to give the Irish a 17-7 lead at the

courtesy of a three-yard scoring strike from Elliott to Smith.
The Boilermakers then went ahead on a 38-yard touchdown pass from Elliott to
Jaycen Taylor with 3.41 remaining.
The Irish, though, had a late rally in them, as Clausen led the team on a 12-
play, 72-yard drive for the win.
Notre Dame gained 383 total yards, including 167 on the ground, as it sent
Purdue to a third straight defeat. The Boilermakers set themselves back with
13 penalties for 103 yards lost.
