Troy, AL (Sports Network) - Levi Brown threw for 253 yards and a pair of
touchdowns to lead the Troy Trojans to a 33-23 victory over the Florida
International Panthers in Sun Belt Conference action.
Jerrel Jernigan caught five passes for 131 yards and a score for Troy (4-2,
3-0 Sun Belt).
Paul McCall threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns in the loss for Florida
International (3-4, 2-1).
Troy scored back-to-back touchdowns to open the game, as Brown threw a 15-yard
scoring strike to Cornelius Williams and an 86-yard touchdown pass to
Jernigan. Although the Trojans did miss the extra point after the first score,
they still owned a 13-0 advantage.
FIU got on the board with a safety with just over seven minutes remaining on
the first quarter clock, and the Golden Panthers cut their deficit to 13-9
just minutes later with an eight-yard touchdown pass from McCall to Junior
Troy closed out the first quarter with a 20-yard field goal by Sam
Glusman, making the score 16-9 after 15 minutes of action.
Glusman then opened the second quarter with a 44-yard field goal that made the
score 19-9 in favor of the Trojans.
FIU got into the end zone with 20 seconds remaining in the first half, as
Daunte Owens scored on a one-yard plunge. Still the Trojans led 19-16 at
The only points of the third quarter came on a two-yard touchdown pass from
Jernigan to Justin Bay, stretching the Troy advantage to 26-16.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, the Trojans went up by a score of
33-16 on a one-yard touchdown run by Dan Parker.
McCall managed to throw a five-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Dickens with
nine-and-a-half minutes remaining in the tilt, but the Golden Panthers were
shutout the rest of the way.
