NCAA Game Summary - East Carolina at UCF

(Sunday, November 2nd)

Final Score: East Carolina 13, UCF 10 (OT)

Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Ben Hartman drilled a 39-yard field goal in overtime and the East Carolina Pirates defeated UCF, 13-10, in a defensive showdown.

Norman Whitley rushed for 135 yards and scored the lone touchdown for the Pirates (5-3, 3-1 C-USA). Pat Pinkney replaced an ineffective Rob Kass in the second half and threw for 84 yards on 6-of-14 passing. Davon Drew led all receivers with 86 yards on six receptions.

Michael Greco struggled under center for the Knights (2-6, 1-3), connecting on just 9-of-21 passes for 142 yards with one touchdown and a ghastly interception in the extra session. Brynn Harvey was held to 30 yards on 17 carries.

Trailing 10-3, ECU got the ball back at the UCF 46 with 5:11 to play in the fourth quarter. Pinkney then proceeded to guide the Pirates on a 10-play drive, which featured a 13-yard completion to Drew on fourth down. An 18-yard strike to Drew on 3rd-and-9 moved the ball to the four-yard line. After the Knights were whistled for offsides, Whitley burrowed his way into the end zone from two yards out, tying the game with 1:51 left in regulation.

The clubs traded turnovers on back-to-back plays in the final minute, then Greco was picked off by Emanuel Davis on the first offensive play in overtime. Three straight runs by Whitley spotted the ball at the 22-yard line and Hartman split the uprights to win the game.

Daren Daly kicked a 49-yard field goal to put UCF on the board with 9:34 remaining in the first quarter, and Hartman looked to answer for East Carolina, but he missed from 48 yards out early in the second frame.

The Knights grabbed a 10-0 lead when Greco threw a 54-yard TD pass to Jamar Newsome with 1:40 to play before halftime. East Carolina quickly moved the ball down the field, but trailed by 10 points at the break after Hartman's 46-yard attempt sailed wide left in the waning moments.

Hartman booted a 27-yard field goal with 7:57 remaining in the third quarter.
