Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - C.J. Bacher passed for three touchdowns and
ran for another, as the Northwestern Wildcats outlasted the Purdue
Boilermakers, 48-26, in Big Ten play at Ryan Field.
Bacher completed 20-of-33 tosses for 220 yards and he also ran for 41 more
yards on 15 carries, as the Wildcats (6-1, 2-1 BigTen) rebounded nicely
following their first loss to Michigan State last weekend. Tyrell Sutton also
had a solid game, rushing for 96 yards on 18 carries and catching four balls
for 62 yards and a score. Eric Peterman got involved as well, as he caught a
touchdown and threw another.
Kory Sheets paced the Boilermakers (2-5, 0-3) with 168 yards and two
touchdowns on 17 carries. Curtis Painter converted on 26-of-41 pass attempts
for 273 yards and a touchdown, but he was also intercepted three times. Greg
Orton was his favorite target with seven receptions for 100 yards and a score,
as Purdue dropped its fourth game in a row.
Carson Wiggs hit a pair of field goals in the final five minutes of the
opening quarter and Purdue held a 6-0 advantage.
It took the Wildcats just over a minute to get on the board in the second
quarter, as Bacher threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Peterman.
Northwestern added to its lead three minutes later, when Peterman tossed a 30-
yard scoring strike to Sidney Stewart.
A 26-yard field goal by Amado Villarreal just over a minute later pushed the
Wildcats' advantage to 17-6.
With just over a minute left in the half, Purdue cut into Northwestern's lead
with a two-yard touchdown run by Sheets. The extra-point was off the mark,

a nine-yard touchdown pass from Bacher to Sutton with just 15 seconds left.

one-yard touchdown pass from Bacher to give Northwestern a 34-12 lead late in
the third quarter.
Purdue tried to make a game of it with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Painter
to Orton just seconds into the final frame.
Northwestern, though, would put this one away with back-to-back touchdowns
over a minute span midway through the period. Bacher first plunged one yard
for a score before Omar Conteh posted a 14-yard touchdown run.
A 76-yard touchdown run by Sheets capped the game's scoring, with Purdue on
the short end of a 48-26 decision.
The Boilermakers turned the ball over five times, while giving up 451 total
yards to Northwestern.
