Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - C.J. Spiller carried the ball eight times
for 55 yards and made six catches for 105 yards, leading the Clemson Tigers to
a 27-21 win over the Boston College Eagles in an ACC showdown from Alumni
Cullen harper struggled under center for the Tigers (4-4, 2-3 ACC), throwing
three interceptions. However, he did manage to complete 21-of-33 pass attempts
for 252 yards and a score.
Eagles (5-3, 2-3) quarterback Chris Crane completed 18-of-39 passes for 116
yards and a score. Josh Haden led the BC ground attack, carrying the ball 15
times for 71 yards and a TD.
Clemson opened up the scoring midway through the first quarter, when James
Davis busted through the line for a 23-yard touchdown run.
Harper made it a 14-0 game late in the first quarter, when he plowed his way
into the end zone from three yards out.
Clemson added to its lead just before halftime, as Mark Buchholz split the
uprights on a 27-yard field goal to give the Tigers a 17-0 cushion.
BC finally got on the board in the third quarter, when Haden plunged in from
the one-yard line to make it a 17-7 game.
Less than two minutes later, the Eagles scored again, as Roderick Rollins
picked up a blocked punt and raced 25 yards to the end zone.
The Eagles took the lead midway through the final stanza, when Crane threw a
15-yard touchdown strike to Brandon Robinson to give the Eagles a 21-17
Clemson immediately answered the bell, as Harper found Aaron Kelly from four
yards out to make it a 24-21 game with 7:10 to play.
The Tigers put the game away in the final minutes, as Buchholz drilled a 43-
yard field goal for the final margin of victory.
The Clemson defense was stifling in the win, holding the Eagles to just 236
yards of total offense and 3-of-18 on third downs.
